Yasmine Hamdan - Samar

Born in Beirut, Yasmine grew up listening to the great classical Arab songstresses like Asmahan, and singing her own modern music in Arabic helped Hamdan feel at home when she wasn't sure where she belonged. Having spent part of her life in Gulf countries and Greece, she returns to Lebanon in 1990 to finish high school and start psychology studies, earning a BA in 1998. That year, she forms the first indie underground arabic speaking group "Soapkills" along with Zeid Hamdan. Between 1998 and 2005, Soapkills released 4 albums including a Live recording. Her encounter in 2005 with Mirwais Ahmadzaï, the electronic music producer who composed Madonna’s album “Music”, results in the birth of Y.A.S. In 2009 the “Arabology” album is released by Universal Music. Yasmine released her first solo album, produced by Marc Collin (Nouvelle Vague) on May 21st 2012.

С.Ганзориг МУГЖ & Д.Ширмэнтуяа МУГЖ - Хөхрөөд байгаа уулс

Great folk song from this duet, they are brother and sister and it seems singing has become a family tradition for them since a long time ago, their parents and grandparents are well known singers too. As many other songs we've seen today, this song talks about how great the mongolian country is. The video itself shows the beauty it posess but unfortunately some cars in the background bug that idyllic image they want to show us.

Altanjargal - Duuriimaa

Another wonderful example of mongolian folk song

Khuumei Zorigoo - Tsast Tsagaan Kharkhiraa

Well, it's time now to listen to some modern folk rock music from Mongolia. The singer this time is Khuumei Zorigoo, there isn't much info and photos about him in the web but he's a former member of Altain Orgil, one of the most famous and famed mongolian bands. One of the greatest features mongolian music has brought to this world, and that you can find in this song, is the throat singing and the horse-headed fiddle. Traditional plus modern music in one song, that's quite amazing, at least for me ;-).
